When a case unexpectedly brings Kayla to his door in the middle of the night, sparks fly. With a piercing gaze and heavily inked skin, Dean looks like a walking wet dream.
Until he turns out to be an asshole.

Forced to work together in order to help two vulnerable boys, Kayla slowly penetrates Dean’s tough exterior. Along the way the two discover something they've each been missing—but only time will tell if they can overcome the painful past that’s kept anyone from bringing true happiness into Dean’s world.

I received a review copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I adore this cover and was one of the reason why I wanted to read it. What I love the most about this cover is the black and white it makes it look stunning plus it's in keeping with the novel. The male model on the front I can definitely see as Dean maybe with less perfect hair but apart from that he is spot on.

Even though the synopsis doesn't suggest paranormal I was kind of expecting it, probably from the title but even though I didn't get what I expected I still thouroughly enjoy it. This was a new kind of story for me which was a refreshing change as I haven't read anything different in a long while. The major thing that I couldn't get on with was the length of the book as it was far too long making some of the things drag on a little bit too much to the point where I was getting a little fed up. I loved the romance side of the story as it didn't happen straight away even though they did seem to fancy one another from the very beginning it still felt drawn out and realistic. I love the social working and the children that they take care off aspect as that's new to me plus it was done in a sensitive manner. After most of the book being dragged out the end felt far too rushed for my liking apart from that it was an enjoyable ending.

I loved pretty much all the characters with a few understandable exceptions. Kayla was a great female character who held her own and I loved her for it. I loved that she was a sweet person as well as a fiery person as it showed her being a more realistic character. Dean did start of as a really grumpy and mean person but the more we find out about him the more I understood why he is was the way he was plus he ended up having a romantic and sensitive side to him which was nice to see. All the troubled boys where great additions to the story as even though they have gone through hell and back they still was able to laugh.

Overall, this was a really good book even if it was a little too drawn out in the beginning. I can't wait to try something else from J.A. Little.
