Synopsis:
Perfect for fans of Alice Clayton and Emma Chase, Lauren Layne’s Oxford series heats up in this story of forbidden desire as a brooding jock hoping for a comeback falls for a woman who’s strictly off-limits.
A year ago, Jackson Burke was married to the love of his life and playing quarterback for the Texas Redhawks. Now he’s retired, courtesy of the car accident that ruined his career—and single, after a nasty scandal torpedoed his marriage. Just as he’s starting to get used to his new life as a health and fitness columnist for Oxford magazine, his unpredictable ex shows up on his doorstep in Manhattan. Jackson should be thrilled. But he can’t stop thinking about the one person who’s always been there for him, the one girl he could never have: her younger sister.
Mollie Carrington can’t say no to Madison. After all, her older sister practically raised her. So when Madison begs for help in winning her ex-husband back, Mollie’s just glad she got over her own crush on Jackson ages ago—or so she thought. Because as Mollie reconnects with Jackson, she quickly forgets all her reasons to stay loyal to her sister. Tempted by Jackson’s mellow drawl and cowboy good looks, Mollie is sick and tired of coming in second place. But she can’t win if she doesn’t play the game.

I received a review copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

The cover matches the first book but with a different model which was needed as it's a different character taking the lead but it's also the a part of the same series.

Out of all the Lauren Layne books that I have read so far this one was a little bit of a slow burner and then by the end it was too rushed. Once I did get into this book I was very much addicted to it and couldn't wait too find out what was going to happen next even if I could predict what was going to happen I didn't seem too mind that much. There was parts of the romance that I didn't quite believe in as yes they had chemistry but I felt at times it was a little one sided. Even though it seemed one sided at time, the other moments you could see hot chemistry as well as cute moments. I hated the relationship between the sisters as I just couldn't imagine such a horrible sister that is that manipulative towards her baby sister it was just hard to stomach. I felt like I needed this book to be longer as the ended felt rushed and not enough conclusion for my liking but I guess I can forgive that as I'm sure we will see more of them in the next book as we have seen previous main characters so here's hoping.

I have loved every character from the Stiletto series and now the Oxford series. After reading the synopsis I wasn't sure I was going to like the main characters and how wrong I could be. Mollie was a great character as she was smart and sweet although she did come across as naive but she was still endearing. Jackson I felt for especially the way Madison treated him it was no wonder that he was stand-offish with everyone as anyone would be but Mollie really brought out his softer side which was nice to see. It's always great to see the characters from the other book in this series and the spin off series as it's nice to know how they are all getting on.

Overall, this one was a little slow but once it got going it was just as good as all the others that I have read from Lauren Layne.
